Majete Wildlife Reserve is one of Africa's greatest conservation success stories and Malawi's only Big Five reserve. In 2003, managed by African Parks, Majete was virtually empty of wildlife due to decades of poaching. Today it is one of southern Africa's most remarkable and rewarding safari destinations.
African Parks invested massively in anti-poaching, infrastructure, and restocking — reintroducing elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, black and white rhino, wild dog, cheetah, and dozens of other species. The transformation is nothing short of miraculous.
Set in the Shire River Valley in southern Malawi, Majete covers 700 square kilometres of diverse habitats including miombo woodland, riverine forest, rocky escarpments, and the Shire River itself.
