Savuti Safari

A legendary safari area within Chobe National Park — famous for dramatic lion-elephant encounters, massive predator concentrations, and the mysterious ancient Savuti Channel.

About Savuti Safari

Savuti is one of Africa's most legendary safari areas — a remote wilderness in the southwestern corner of Chobe National Park that has earned a global reputation for extraordinary predator-prey interactions and dramatic wildlife encounters. The region centres on the Savuti Channel, a mysterious waterway that has periodically stopped and restarted flowing over the centuries, most recently re-flowing in 2009.

Savuti is particularly famous for its large lion prides that have adapted to hunting elephants — one of the most remarkable predator behaviours documented in Africa. Footage of Savuti lions taking on full-grown elephants has made this region famous worldwide. Beyond lions, Savuti is home to exceptional concentrations of cheetah, leopard, spotted hyena, and African wild dog.

During the dry season, the Savuti Marsh attracts enormous herds of elephant, zebra, wildebeest, and buffalo — drawing predators in large numbers and creating some of the most dramatic game viewing in Africa. The area's famous San rock paintings at Gubatsa Hills add a remarkable cultural dimension to the safari experience.
